03.01 Diverse Learner Resource Roundup

In this week’s edition: flexing our empathy muscles, designing for learner variability, and placing equity at the center of our decisions now and moving forward.

Reopening school buildings. Upcoming state tests. Planning for transitions. Summer preparation. There are so many swirling thoughts and plans and challenges happening right now. Find encouragement in that we have done and continue to do something we’ve never done before — and you are not alone in that. This week’s roundup includes resources to support you and your students in the coming changes.

By May 2021, we can confidently say that our diverse learners have equitable access to high quality educational opportunities that inspire progress toward their individualized goals across learning environments.

As always, use what you need, when you need it. Comment below with how you’re putting these ideas to work, what you’ve found most useful, or where gaps continue to exist or show up.

PLANNING FOR INSTRUCTION

MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS

  • Supporting Young English Learners at Home – a library of tip sheets available in English and Spanish; these would be great for building connections with the families of both in person and virtual students

  • Have you heard of Quill.org? It’s a free tool, great for developing written expression skills.
